Thinking of coming to St Paul’s Church for the first time?
This page will give you an idea of what to expect.
St Paul’s meets on a Sunday at the Gryphon School in Sherborne. There is plenty of parking and follow signs for the main reception and St Paul’s @ the Gryphon when you arrive.
St Paul’s is a place of welcome and where ‘all are invited’ to come to join in. From 1010, (good) coffee and cake, biscuits and squash are served and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. There is always a buzz of conversation as people catch up before the service starts at 1030.
All the words you’ll need for the service will be on the screen, but you might be offered one of our notice sheets by our friendly welcome team as you come in. If you’re coming with children, please don’t worry if they make a noise or get restless. They are welcome to be themselves, that is how God put them together!
We begin with a short prayer, and then we’ll sing an opening song. After this, the children will leave to go to their groups – called COSMIC. If your child doesn’t feel confident about going to groups that is fine, you can go and settle them or they can stay in the main service with the adults. After the children have gone out, we then continue with a time of prayer, sung worship and reflection of the week, before a talk about the Bible which can last between 15-25 minutes. Once a month we share bread and wine (Holy Communion) and we’ll also have a service in a month when we worship altogether as a church family. Usually, services are 1 to 1.5 hours depending on what we’re doing.
Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you. We’re a friendly and welcoming church family, and there’s always room for more!
